Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Grinnell College. 

My research explores policy-relevant questions at the intersection of labor economics and economic history. I am particularly interested in periods of mass unemployment, wage structures, industrial reallocation, and inequality. In my work, I use novel archival data, econometrics, machine learning, and the history of economic thought to better understand these aspects of labor markets in the past. My research has been published in the Journal of Economic History, the Economic History Review, and Explorations in Economic History, among others. Before joining Grinnell in 2022, I worked as an economist at the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), where I contributed to policy and research on the regulation of the US housing market. I also bring experience from the Bank of England and RAND Corporation. I received my Ph.D. and Master's in economic history from the University of Oxford (Nuffield College), supported by the Marshall Scholarship. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Georgia.
